A 47-year-old Lakeland man died after an SUV struck his motorized scooter at a highway intersection in Sumter County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash happened about 10:55 p.m. on southbound US-301 at County Road 470 when the SUV failed to stop and hit the back of the scooter. Names have not been released.
