China’s foreign minister Wang Yi finished a two-day visit to South Korea on Friday but did not back Seoul’s push for multiparty peace talks involving North Korea. The trip followed Xi Jinping’s June visit to Pyongyang and coincided with Donald Trump scaling back joint drills and calling for further talks, while North Korea responded with more than 10 short-range ballistic missile launches.
