Los Angeles police fatally shot Zimran Canas outside his Boyle Heights home after he approached officers with an 8-foot pole fitted with a 12-inch serrated blade. Officers were called to the residence around 10 a.m. Monday and said they were told he had a mental illness and was armed with a metal pipe.
