Type 45 destroyers lose power in warm water

Summary: Britain’s Type 45 destroyers can lose all electrical power when sea temperatures exceed about 28°C. The WR-21 gas-turbine intercoolers fail outright, tripping the turbines and forcing the ship’s electrical load onto undersized diesel generators, which then collapse in sequence, taking propulsion, sensors, weapons and navigation offline.
