Cyberattacks disrupt emergency alert apps in Russia, Ukraine

Emergency-alert systems in Russia and Ukraine were hit by cyberattacks overnight, broadcasting fake warnings of possible nuclear strikes. Ukraine's Air Alert app also warned of radiation and chemical threats and street fighting; Ukraine's Air Force said the system was hacked after false hazard warnings spread across Kyiv on Sunday. The systems were brought back under control. Dr. Melanie Garson of University College London said such attacks are designed to undermine faith in governments' ability to provide trust.
