South Korea to expand Hormuz anti-piracy operations

South Korea plans to move its Cheonghae anti-piracy unit’s operations closer to the Strait of Hormuz, deploying maritime patrol aircraft and an explosive ordnance disposal team to help keep the waterway open and protect commercial shipping and energy supplies. The Defence Ministry said the government will ask Parliament to extend the unit’s Middle East deployment, which expires at the end of 2026. Seoul ruled out military intervention in the US-Iran war.
