Summary: In early 2015 during a COMPTUEX off the coast of Florida, a French Navy Rubis-class nuclear-powered submarine, Saphir, penetrated USS Theodore Roosevelt’s defenses and fired simulated torpedoes. The exercise reportedly “sank” the 100,000-ton Nimitz-class carrier and several escorts, with the submarine obtaining firing solutions against the carrier and many support surface warships.
