Summary: Chinese researchers demonstrated a handheld quantum magnetometer designed for detecting submarines in a real-world test. The pencil-sized device, using about 5 watts, was able to isolate magnetic disturbances from a subway train moving underground. The results were published Sept. 14 in Acta Physica Sinica.
