Analysis: Lada-class submarines fall short of promise
By The BriefBrief · Sources (1)
Russia’s Lada-class submarines were designed to be quieter and more advanced than the Kilo class, but the lead boat, Sankt Peterburg, took 14 years to enter service and was judged “completely incapable of combat.” It was scrapped in 2024; two Lada-class boats now serve, while a third is undergoing sea trials and the class still lacks air-independent propulsion.
